Post breakfast drive to Kargil crossing the Zoji La pass and passing through Drass – the second coldest inhabited place on earth after Siberia (Russia). The town of Kargil dons the feel of a typical Central Asian town.
This morning we will drive to Uley Topkyo and cross the Fotu La, which is the highest pass on the Leh – Srinagar road and pretty much divides the majorly Buddhist district of leh from the primarily islamic population of Kargil. Enroute we’ll be visiting the moonland of Lamayuru and remote Likir Gompa. Overnight at Uley Topko.
Early morning we will proceed for Aryan Valley. There are many small villages but only two villages of Dha and Hanu are open for tourists. Enjoy the afternoon with the Aryans, descendants from the armies of Alexander. Then we’ll visit one of the most culturally rich monastery of Alchi and proceed towards Leh. Overnight in Leh.
Post Breakfast we proceed for Indus Valley monastery tour including Shey Palace, the ancient capital of Ladakh & Thikse,y an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village, then we visit Sindhu Ghat & Stok Palace. Return to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore the local markets. Dinner & Overnight in Leh
Post breakfast we drive to Nubra Valley (120 kms, approx 5 hrs drive). The road journey from Leh to Nubra Valley passes over Khardung La (The highest motorable road in the World) AT 5,602 M / 18,390 FT. Nubra Valley is popularly known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers. HUNDER is where you have opportunity to ride on a Bactrian camel (double humped) amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with snow capped mountains on the horizon. Upon arrival in Nubra we check in at our Camp. In the evening you can walk around the small villages to see how the Balti People live on the Indian side, majority of Baltis are on the Pakistan side. Dinner and overnight at the Camp
After an early breakfast we check out from the Camp and drive to Sumur & Panamik on the other side of Shyok river. Later we drive back to Leh in the late afternoon via Khardungla Top. (approx 5 hrs drive) On arrival at Leh you will check in to your Hotel.
After breakfast we will drive to Pangong Lake (140 KMS / 5 HRS drive). This famous blue brackish Lake of Pangong is 5/6 Kms wide and over 133 Kms long with half of its running the other side of the “Indo China Border”. Upon arrival we check in at our Camp near Pangong lake. The evening is at leisure to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Dinner & Overnight at the Camp
Morning at leisure to explore the beauty of lake and later we drive back to Leh (approx 5 hours drive) enroute visiting Hemis Gompa, the largest monastic foundation of Drukpa Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism. On arrival in Leh, check in at our hotel for Overnight/ Option of departure next day for those who are less on time
We leave early for Tso Moriri lake. Arrive at Karzok village and check in at the camps/guest house. Situated at 15,000 ft (4,572 m), Karzok is the only permanent settlement in Rupshu region with an approximate population of 500 people. The few barley fields at Karzok must be among the highest cultivation in the world. Day free to explore the famous festival of Karzok Gustor. Amazing opportunity for photography in this festival. The clear blue Tso Moriri lake is one of the most breathtaking lakes in Ladakh. This brackish water lake is considered sacred by the locals.The Lake is a breeding ground for numerous species of birds like Great Crested Grebe, the Brahmini duck, Bar Headed Geese, etc.
Today we reach the beautiful Tso Kar lake. Tso Kar (4485 m) is also called White Lake because of salt deposits around it. In the afternoon drive onwards to Sarchu.
After breakfast we drive to Manali crossing Baralacha la at an elevation of 16,040 ft(4,890 m ). Overnight at Manali.
